Naturally, with the concentration of rocket scientists, engineers, and technicians, there are a number of museums, activities, and groups on the science and geek side of life.

The US Space and Rocket Center is one of the US's largest, most comprehensive space exploration museums, with the Spacedome Theater, Rocket Park, NASA's Education Training Center, and various non-space science exhibits, and is the home of the Space Camp and Aviation Challenge youth programs. The museum houses the most complete space exploration collection in the US.

    Con*Stellation
is a major local science fiction convention, sponsored by the North Alabama Science Fiction Association (NAFSA). Con*Stellation started in 1982, and features SF luminaries, panels, gaming, and a dealers room.

The Von Braun Astronomical Society, named for one of the original rocket scientists, who was one of the founding members (it was the Rocket City Astronomical Society then). The VBAS operates a planetarium at Monte Sano State Park with regular shows.

    National Speleological Association
is headquartered in Huntsville - not all the scientists and explorers here are space-related - and is dedicated to the exploration, preservation, and study of caves, and educating the public. Alabama and Tennessee have a large number of caves, and this is a natural area for underground organizations.

    Sci-Quest
is a general science museum, mainly but not entirely aimed at children, with hands-on exhibits and educational programs.

The Huntsville Depot and Museum, Earlyworks Children's Museum, and Alabama Constitution Village are three museums in one complex. The Alabama Constitution Village is a living history open air museum, recreating some of life in 1819 Alabama. The Huntsville Depot and Museum is the site of Alabama's oldest railroad depot, and has a collection of railroad items, with a robot ticket taker, and a collection of graffiti from Civil War travelers. The Earlyworks Children's Museum is a hands-on exploration museum with a large number of activities.

The Veterans Memorial Museum of Huntsville was founded in 2001, and has a collection military vehicles going back to World War I, and a collection of items dating to the Revolutionary War.

The Huntsville Museum of Art has a fairly large collection, including subcollections of American and regional American art, another of African and Asian art, and smaller collections of science-related art, as will as a good sized collection of silver figures and Italian jewelry.

The North Alabama Railroad Museum has a good sized collection of rolling stock, engines, and other railroad items.

The Harrison Brothers Hardware Store is a working museum of hardware and tools; it is also a hardware store, with expert craftsmen on hand to talk about hand tools and old fashioned building and making technique.

    Burritt On The Mountain
is a museum on Round Top Mountain, with a great many features, including a historic mansion, a living history museum, nature trails, and quite a lot more.
